Sports: Have the Redsox signed their closer?

At first look the Joel Pineiro signing doesn't look like it. But if you analyze the signing carefully, you can see that he has 1 career save.
Pitcher Joel Pineiro has reached preliminary agreement on a one-year deal for a guaranteed $4 million with the Boston Red Sox, multiple baseball sources said Wednesday.

The contract is contingent on Pineiro passing a physical exam later this week, the sources said. The deal includes a player option for 2008 and $2 million in performance bonuses based on games finished, according to The Associated Press.

Pineiro, who pitched exclusively as a starter during his last four seasons with Seattle, is expected to work out of the bullpen for Boston. He could be given a chance to compete for the team's closer's job in spring training.

I don't particularly like the signing, but $4 million in this market isn't much at all, so this might be worth the risk. And this is what ESPN insider said about his fantasy value.
The contract reportedly includes $2 million in performance bonuses based on games finished, which suggests that the Red Sox consider Pineiro a contender for their vacant closer's job. The righty's deal also contains a player option for 2008. He must pass a physical for the contract to be finalized.
I just might have to draft him, in one of the last rounds, in my fantasy drafts.
